The Fig Tree Withers
18Early in the morning, as he was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.
20When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked.
21Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
This is one of the funniest verses!! Jesus is hungry, walked by a tree, and curses it b/k it has no fruit oin it. how coolis that! I mean he just curses a freakin tree cuzz' it has no fruit! DUDE>> That's awesome!!!

He loves fruit (in our lives too)
I never really thought of this instance as a positive show of God's power. It always makes me feel sad. I love nature... obviously the implied meaning is significant, but maybe one always wants the object of less authority to overcome its place in life. Wouldn't it be so much greater if the tree produced immediate fruit in the pressence of Christ? But, I guess this is not true with us either. Fruit is a result of the Spirit's WORK in us in addition to our acceptance of it and not simply the presence of the Spirit. If the latter was true, we would all be plentiful in fruit.
